Kahn Fotuali’i swaps Bath for Montpellier

French side Montpellier have announced the signing of experienced scrum-half Kahn Fotuali’i ahead of the 2019/20 season, who replaces the departed Ruan Pienaar.

The Samoan international first came to wider prominence at the Crusaders in Super Rugby, winning the title in 2008, before joining the Ospreys in 2011.

He impressed at the Welsh region but left in 2013 to sign for Premiership club Northampton Saints, where he remained until 2016 when the half-back moved to Bath.

Fotuali’i was a regular in their match-day 23 over the past few campaigns but the 37-year-old’s contract was not renewed by the West Countrymen for the forthcoming season, allowing the Top 14 team to snap him up.

Although New Zealand-born, the playmaker qualified for Samoa through his ancestry and has featured 31 times for the Pacific Islanders since making his debut in 2010.
